I can't imagine it being summer with out flip flops, but as they do every year news reports flood the airwaves decrying the use of the most beloved piece of footwear since, well... ever!
The term "flip flop" was coined in the 1960's stemming from the meloodious and not at all annoying sound the shoes make when worn. The foot wear itself dates as far back as the ancient egyptians. Flip flops made their appearance the US in the 50's when WWII vets began wearing the Japanese version, zoris brought back from the war as souvenirs. Since then flip flops has become a staple of the American wardrobe is and is popular in virtually every country around the world (where it's warm enough, of course.)*
I'll just list three reasons why flippy floppies are bad for your feet, because let's face it when you've been in heels all day (or all night), it's 142˚ outside or you just spent $35 on a pedicure are you really gonna care?

2. Exposure: Your feet are almost entirely exposed and thus more susceptible to cuts & infections. Have you ever stepped in a New York City puddle in flip flops? Your foot never feels clean again & you spend the next 24 hours obsessing over what could have been living in the puddle while you wait for it's symptoms to manifest and kill you.
3. They're impossible to run in. Use your imagination on that one.
