That might be a little dramatic, but let’s just say it can help keep you from getting sick.
The old adage goes, and I’m paraphrasing; An Itchy Palm is sign of good fortune coming. But did you know that scratching your palm while washing your hands a a great way to rid your self of that pesky stuff that finds its way under your fingernails and doesn’t come off with regular hand washing.
Stuff like: dirt, food, germs, bacteria and the particularly nasty fecal matter, which is teeming with e. coli.
So, next time you’re washing your hands, the dirtiest part of your body and every time after, get your hands nice and soapy and give your palms a nice long scratch. And don’t forget your thumbs.
Here are some other handwashing tips incase you’re interested:
Good old fashioned soap and water is the best way to get your hands clean. Warm sudsy water combined with the friction of rubbing your hands back and forth is the most effective way to grab dirt and bacteria on your hands and rinse it away.
Hand sanitizer can be a good thing if used every once in while. Most of them are loaded with alcohol which can dry the skin and recent studies show overuse of HSs can actually cause germ and bacteria resistance. This is not the best for dirty hands & have you ever accidentally put your hands in your mouth after using HS? Yummy! No, not really. For a good & good for you hand sanitizer, try Clean Well. It’s all natural, kid-safe and actually doesn’t taste that bad.
Don’t forget your wrist. Bacteria likes to travel and the wrist is often over looked.
When you can avoid automatic air dryers in favor of paper towels. Sorry tree-huggers, but automatic drier have intake fans located on the underside meaning they pull air from the floor of the bathroom. Yep, the floor. And don’t let the hot air fool you. You’re still drying your hands with bacteria laden air.
You should take your rings off to wash your hands. Bacteria like to hide under jewelry. However, based on past experience (Read: Love, Loss & ADHD), I wouldn’t blame you if you left them on. If you do, place them directly into your pocket or purse. That way if you forget to put them back on at least you still have them.
