The modern t-shirt came about when some genius whom shall remain nameless came up with the brilliant idea to cut the standard "union" undergarment in to two pieces making the top (shirt) long enough to be tucked in to the waistband of the bottom thus making using the bathroom a lot more low maintenance & eliminating the need for the "butt flap." Thank you for that.
Tees became popular stateside in the late 1890's when they became the Navy's standard issue. Until then they were only worn by miner & dock workers. The popularity of the T-shirt (named because of it's shape) continued grew until it exploded on the fashion mainstream with Marlon Brando iconically sported a t-shirt as outerwear in "A Streetcar Named Desire" in 1951.
Instantly people realized that the t-shirt could be transformed into a medium of self expression & advertising and the graphic tee was born. Since the late 1950's there have been thousands (maybe millions) of designs printed on tees. So it's not difficult at all to find the perfect tees to fit your style & budget.
